October marks the beginning of language courses at the JCC!
This year we will learn Hebrew (5 levels!), Yiddish and Arabic (2 levels).

Cost:
JCC Krakow members (with a valid and up-to-date membership): 150 zł per semester
Nonmembers: 300 zł per semester

HEBREW

Led by: Dr. Ewa Węgrzyn and Dr. Alicja Maślak-Maciejewska

Level: Beginners
For those who are just beginning their adventure with Hebrew.The classes will start with learning the alphabet and reading. During the course students will learn basic Hebrew, how to use the present tense, and by the end of the year will be able to correctly form sentences in Hebrew on basic subjects.

Organizational class: October 5th, 2016 at 5:30 pm

Level: Basic
For those who know the basics of Hebrew and can read and write as well as use present tense in their speech. During the course the participant will deepen their knowledge of Hebrew, learn new words, and learn the past tense.

Level: Intermediate 1
For those who speak intermediate Hebrew, can read and write, and are able to use present and past tenses. During the course the participant will deepen their knowledge of Hebrew, learn new words, and learn the future tense.

Level: Intermediate 2
For those who are fluent in Hebrew in writing and in speech, and can use present, past, and future tenses. During the course we will be focusing on writing and speaking. Hebrew grammar will also be an important part of the course, but the main focus will be on broadening vocabulary and knowledge of Hebrew syntax. Participants will also prepare presentations on chosen topics, write essays and engage in discussions.

Level: Advanced
For those who are fluent in Hebrew in writing and in speech, and can use present, past, and future tenses. During the course we will be focusing on writing and speaking. Hebrew grammar will also be an important part of the course, but the main focus will be on broadening vocabulary and knowledge of Hebrew syntax.

ARABIC

Led by: Dr. Ida Balwierz

Level: Beginners
During a one year’s course of Arabic – thanks to modern methods of teaching and the support of multi-media and other didactic materials – participants will learn fascinating facts about Arabic language and the specifics of the language which are very complex in the Arab world (the literary Arabic and dialect). Also, participants will learn the Arabic alphabet, its orthography and pronunciation. They will learn the basic Arabic grammar and some practical words and linguistic structures used in daily communication.

Organizational class: Monday, October 10th, 2016 at 5:30 pm

Level: Intermediate
During a one year’s course of Arabic – thanks to modern methods of teaching and the support of multi-media and other didactic materials – participants will broaden their knowledge of Arabic grammar, Arabic culture and daily life in Arab states. Also, they will develop their language skills by learning practical vocabulary and linguistic structures used in daily conversations. Also, they will learn the basics of the language used in the media, business and diplomacy. They will also learn how to write simple formal texts.

YIDDISH

Level: Beginners
The group will learn the basics of Yiddish: the Jewish alphabet, conjugation of verbs, counting, diminutives and words which are part of the first texts and songs that we use during our class. After a year of study, students will be able to use the language on an elementary level.
