Throughout the ages Syria has been the focal point of innovation in classical Arab music. For example, Aleppo is well known for the muwashshah, a unique courtly song-form to which this city has been home for 800 years. The country is also the first center of Christian hymnody. Our guest speaker Nadim Husni will take us on a journey through the ages, illustrating the development of Syrian music from its early forms to the contemporary pop music.

Nadim Husni was born in 1983 in Damascus. He studied viola at the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus, and then - composition and conducting at the Academy of Music in Krakow. Currently he works as a teacher of Arabic at the Jagiellonian University and at JCC Krakow.

In Polish, free admission.
