“50x50.” Photography project by Liudmyla Radyk
Opening of the exhibition

The “50x50” photography project consists of fifty black and white portraits of different people. The photos were taken over a ten-year period, from 2007 till 2016. First of all, “50x50” means “half and half”. Half of these portraits are of the photographer’s close friends and acquaintances, and the other half are of strangers, encountered by her by chance. This project captures the results of ten years of the author’s creative explorations in social photography.

Liudmyla Radyk, a Ukrainian photographer and photo editor, has lived in Poland for the past two years. A native of the small town of Kazatin, Vinnytsia Oblast, she graduated from Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. In 2006, she took a course in reportage photography at Victor Marushchenko’s School of Photography in Kyiv and landed a job of a photo editor-in-chief's assistant at one of Kyiv newspapers two years later. Over the next eight years, she worked as a photo editor-in-chief at a variety of leading Ukrainian newspapers. Her reportage photos have been published in many Ukrainian and Russian newspapers and magazines.
